I stumbled upon Juno Calypso’s images earlier this month, and they still have me thinking. Calypso’s work is so unique yet feels so familiar. She plays off of ideas about femininity, beauty and the ridiculous things women do to maintain a perceived attractive appearance. Her images are odd, startling and made me stop and think.
Calypso’s latest series, Joyce II, is set in a Pennsylvania love hotel for honeymooners and almost divorce-ers. The photos are an absolute must see for anyone interested in beauty, body image and the stupidity of rituals. And it’s just about the most refreshing thing I’ve seen online in a looooong time.
