Whenever someone asks me where my favorite place was on my cross country road trip, I respond without a moment’s hesitation, “Colorado.” The state won me over and left me dumbfounded with its beauty. I’d go back in heartbeat. My last stop in Colorado was Aspen, which is known for its skiing and food festivals. I spent two days there before heading to Arizona. In retrospect, I really wish I had spent at least two weeks in Colorado. Maybe next time!
The day before I left Red Cliff and the Green Bridge Inn, I was visiting with Mallory, the Marketing Director at the Inn, and her father. I asked them about how to get to Aspen from Red Cliff. They explained I could either go on the interstate or go the back way through the Great Continental Divide. Needless to say, I went with the Continental Divide. The view was absolutely stunning, though I must admit that the tourist traction did take a way from some of the scenic beauty. That aside, the mountains were breathtaking.
My Stay at the Hotel Aspen
After the long and winding drive from Red Cliff, I was so, so happy to arrive at the Hotel Aspen. I got a chance to walk around the property with Jeff Bay, the General Manager, who told me a bit about the hotel. Originally built in the 1960s, the old ski lodge was totally remodeled several years ago. Though very modern, the Hotel still retains some of that vintage ski lodge feel.
The room I stayed in was absolutely gorgeous with its high vaulted ceilings and spacious floor plan. The Hotel has a very strong color palette of orange, red, black and white that runs throughout it’s exteriors and interiors. This palette appeared to be a throwback to the Hotel Aspen’s roots in the 1960s while still remaining very modern.
During my first night in Aspen, I spent the entire night on the deck taking in the view and enjoying the hot tub. From the deck, I could see the ski slope, which I imagined are even more spectacular during wintertime. During the day, I spent a fair amount of time by the pool, which was so relaxing. I spent the entire afternoon laying out in the sun and reading my book.
I would definitely recommend the Hotel Aspen to anyone visiting the city. Right now their prices range from $191-$289 (not including taxes) depending on the room you select. This hotel could make a great honeymoon spot or for a family vacation. I was definitely sad to leave!
