Since moving to Texas, one of the hardest adjustments has been adjusting to the seasonal changes. Or I should say the lack thereof. Summer just bleeds into spring with no real fall. Due to the lack of weather changes, I find myself longing for fall. Last weekend, I caught a glimpse of it and finally threw on on a scarf and a cardigan, much to the delight of my fellow East Coasters living in Texas. It wasn’t quite the fall I had been missing, but it was close enough. I realize waxing poetic about a season is somewhat irrational, but hey, a girl can dream, right?
I wanted to share some of the fall items I’m longing to add to my closet. I was recently contacted by Octer, a unique site that aggregates clothing from around the web, making it easier to shop to shop multiple sites at the same time. They originally started in the UK but recently branched out to the U.S. (Full disclosure: I am being compensated for this post. As always, opinions are my own and I would never write about a brand or site I didn’t like.) My Friend Lindsay of Broke and Beautiful did a try on of clothes she recently purchased from Octer and everything looks so cute! She also has a great site review.
I thought this would be the perfect time to step back and think about how I see fall fashion now that I live down in Texas. For sure my choices are a lot different than my days of bundling up in New England. Here are just a few things I find myself dreaming about.
Layering to Stay Cool with Knit Cardigans
One of the biggest psychological adjustments I’ve had to make since moving to Texas is that layering is mostly for staying cool whereas back home it was to stay warm. I definitely find myself taking my cardigan off to stay cool more than I do reaching for it to stay warm. Except when there’s air conditioning, which seems to be going year round in many restaurants and coffee shops. (Side note: WHY?!!) I find myself reaching for lightweight cardigans a lot.
Lightweight Scarves (I Don’t Really Need a Scarf)
Listen, let’s be totally honest. The days down here where I actually need a scarf are pretty much…not quite zero, but close to zero. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to wear one just to get a little taste of fall. In my past life, I had a collection of probably 50 scarves accumulated over 15 years. And, OK, sometimes my neck does get a little cold. That’s why I love lightweight scarves, especially burnout velvet ones.
Light to Medium Wash Ankle Length Skinny Jeans
I have a love/hate relationship with skinny jeans. I just can’t be on the fence! Right now I love them. For some reason, I’m addicted to light or medium wash ankle length skinny jeans with lots of stretch in them because they go with ev-ery-thing. Sweaters, long tops, tank tops, every type of shoe. Heck, I’ve even gotten so addicted that I now roll up my regular length skinny jeans.
When fall finally decides to really show up, I know I’ll be a little closer to ready!
